"I haven’t chosen my Lake District wedding photographer yet. What should I be looking for when I meet them?"

Choosing the right wedding photographer can be an important decision. Here are several things that we think you should look out for when you meet:

  • Do you feel comfortable with them? – Are they interested to discuss your ideas or do they tell you what they will do?
  • Is there consistency in their sample albums? – Its very easy to show you one or two great pictures from different weddings. Make sure you see lots of great pictures from the same wedding(s).
  • Look at the expressions – It’s all in the eyes! Do the people in the pictures look genuinely happy or are the smiles false and fixed?
  • Where are the guests? – Make sure you see sample albums with friends and family in rather than lots of close ups of a bride and groom. Unless it was an exceptionally small wedding, the likelihood is that these could well have been taken on a training course rather than at a real life wedding.
  • What about the story? – Do their albums convey the story and emotion of the day without looking cluttered? Do the pictures flow or have they just tried to cram in as many as possible.
  • What choices do you have? – How important is a choice of album style and size to you? Do want an album that is as individual as you are or one that looks like all the weddings they’ve ever done?

Obviously, you may attach more or less importance to the above depending on your budget and personality. The main thing is that you find a photographer who will work with you, who you can build a rapport with, who understands your requirements and who then has the ability to interpret those requirements into images that you can truly be proud of.
